Today I took a moment to appreciate the simple things in life.

Often, I am running around like Henry Hill in Goodfellas. You know, that scene when Henry has 319 errands to run before going to Pittsburgh, and he has to also make sure the spaghetti is ready for dinner? This is a great scene leading to the apex of the film, and I feel like Scorsese was adding a little bit of life reflection in this moment.

Today while working on various projects, I stopped by Lowe’s and while having a Henry Hill moment, I stopped to get a hotdog from the street vendor. Although there was nothing out of the norm about this exchange, it was a moment of serenity for me. The simplicity of just experiencing life and what was around me at that time, gave me a moment to just enjoy the beauty of the world and how we interact with those around us.

Stopping for these 10 minutes let me hear the sounds of the street, and it was actually not a bad day temperature wise. I returned to the office a little less worried about the work that laid ahead, and discussed the Japanese work philosophy of mid day peace of mind. They got the right idea. So for the next few weeks, I will try this and see how it goes. For one hour, each day, I will try a calming activity and see if that develops better creativity and mindfulness.
